YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown man was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury in connection to the death of an elderly man on the west side.
Joseph Faunda, 44, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery and receiving stolen property. He has been at the Mahoning County Jail on $100,000 bond since his arrest Jan. 26. He will be arraigned on the charges next week.
Police arrested Faunda on a charge of receiving stolen property after he was seen driving the car of Mykola Iwaniuk, 84, who was found dead in his Oakwood Avenue home on Jan. 21. Police said Iwaniuk had been dead for at least a day and had multiple blunt injuries to the back of his head when they found him.
Hours after police found Iwaniuk, as his body was being taken to the coroner’s office for an autopsy, officers found his car a few blocks away in Calvary Cemetery. It was covered with snow and may have been there for some time.
