5-hour standoff in Beaver ends peacefully

There was a standoff in Beaver Township

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – A five-hour standoff with Beaver Township police ended about 9 p.m. Monday with the suspect surrendering peacefully.

The standoff took place at the Western Reserve Road Auto Exchange between Southern Boulevard and Market Street. Over a half dozen police cruisers were on the scene starting around 4 p.m.

Beaver Township Police Chief Carl Frost said the man was distraught and went into the basement with a gun and refused to come upstairs. His girlfriend called 911 because he was threatening to harm himself.

Police officers set up a staging area inside the house since the man was in the basement. He was taken away by ambulance to the hospital for an evaluation.

No one was injured in the incident.
