BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – With Sunday being the deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, a local non-profit agency can help people enroll for health care.
Access Health Mahoning Valley serves four counties at the Warren and Youngstown city health departments. The agency received a federal grant to educate and enroll people for health insurance.
Last year, the agency enrolled approximately 1,000 people in Mahoning and Trumbull counties and this year, it was asked to expand to Columbiana and Ashtabula counties as well.
“While millions have enrolled in coverage under the Affordable Care Act, many remain uninsured. Lack of awareness of new coverage options and financial assistance appears to be a major barrier,” Access Health Mahoning Valley Director Bill Adams said.
Premium tax credits are available to reduce the monthly premium for most health care enrollees. These credits are based on income and can reduce the cost of health insurance by several hundred dollars per month and several thousand dollars per year.
Call 330-373-0703 to schedule an appointment with a certified Navigator with Access Health Mahoning Valley or go online and enter a zip code for enrollment locations.
Navigator services are free and funded through a federal grant administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks.
