Brown presses U.S. Defense nominee for YARS upgrades

Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown urges the U.S. Secretary of Defense nominee to support upgrades at the Air Reserve Station in Vienna, Ohio.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WYTV) – Ohio Senator Sherrod is urging the U.S. Secretary of Defense nominee Dr. Ashton Carter to award the Air Reserve Station in Vienna a new aircraft and support the modernization of the bases fleet of C-130 aircraft.

Both efforts would bring new jobs to the Vienna base, according to Brown.

“The C-130H fleet is critical to our emergency preparedness and overall national security and YARS should be a critical component of its modernization,” said Brown.

Last December, an amendment cosponsored by Senator Brown to speed modernization of Ohio’s C-130H fleet was included as a provision in the House-Senate conference report for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

In Wednesday’s meeting, Brown also asked for Carter’s support for two Ohio Reserve Bases to be hosts to the 12 KC-46A refueling tankers. Youngstown Air Reserve Station and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are both up for consideration.
