Second graders in Liberty get K-9 lesson

LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) — Second grade students in Liberty got a lesson in police work on Wednesday morning.

The Liberty Police department made a surprise visit to E.J. Blott Elementary School. Officers demonstrated how their K-9 officer “Capo” is able to sniff out scents to find things such as missing persons and drugs.

Students recently put on a blue light play and showed their appreciation to the officers by writing up thank you cards for every officer in the Liberty Police Department.

“We want the kids to know that if they need help that they can go to a police officer that they shouldn’t be afraid and that we are so proud of our police officers. We want them to make a connection now, when they are early,” said teacher Jean Lamb.

Liberty police passed out K-9 trading cards to the children as well as badges and bracelets for them to take home.
