YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Monday, Youngstown added three new police officers and a little diversity to its force.
Mayor John McNally and Chief Robin Lees gave the oath of office to Travis Sheely, Michael Conway and Jeshaila Dunkle Monday morning in the City Council Chambers.
These new hires should bring the Youngstown police department up to normal staffing levels, according to Chief Lees, who promised to hire more women and minorities this time around.
“The three new officers will fill in actually for some attrition that we’ve had recently,” Lees said. “The next group that we hire will be the group that will back-fill for our community policing unit (which) we hope to field late this spring, early this summer. So, this is just a step toward that goal.”
Sheely and Conway start training this week, while Dunkle will start after she graduates from the police academy in May.
