Student Athlete: Nolan Cianci

The Kennedy Catholic senior is a two sport standout for the Golden Eagles, while carrying a 4.0 GPA.

Hermitage, PA (WYTV) –  Kennedy Catholic senior Nolan Cianci is a two sport standout for the Golden Eagles, racking up 5 varsity letters in basketball and soccer. But his accomplishments and service in the classroom may be even more impressive, making him a perfect fit for our Student Athlete of the Week.

“Basketball here…it’s intense,” said Cianci. “But you know that it’s for something better on the court.”

Nolan has been apart of some great teams at Kennedy, but maybe none better than this past basketball season, when the Golden Eagles captured a District 10 Title against their bitter rival Farrell.

“If you were to ask people they would say, ‘they’re not going to beat Farrell,'” said Cianci. “But I think it was proving people wrong. Going out, winning District 10 is an awesome thing.

Kennedy went on to play Farrell again in the State Final Four in a game for the ages.

“It was amazing, you looked up and just tons of people were on top of you and it was such a great game too so you really can’t complain.”

The Golden Eagles came up short in that game, but it didn’t take long for Nolan to get back to the books.

“It’s a lot, but I mean sometimes our practices don’t even start till 6:30,” said Cianci “So after practice, you gotta do all your schoolwork and in my family, that’s always came first.”

And it certainly shows. Nolan carries a 4.0 GPA, and Student Council President, but when it comes to his future, a car accident his freshman year inspired him in a new direction.

“My face, my teeth, were some of the main injuries and what the dentist did for me at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh was just incredible.”

And Nolan plans to give back in the same way by becoming a dentist one day.

“Service to me should be done every single day,” he said. “And I think being able to carry out something that will help other people, every single day of my life, it’s just an amazing thing.”
