Teen shoots at YPD, injures one officer

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 17-year-old male was is being held at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center after he fired at Youngstown Police Officers Sunday.

The teen lead Youngstown Police Department on a car chase on Youngstown’s south side, around 4:30 p.m. Sunday,

Eyewitnesses say they heard at least two shots fired near Judson Avenue and Hillman street.

Police said they found the suspect and tried to stop him first by car. That’s when the suspect wrecked the car, got out and started shooting at police.

Youngstown police confirmed at least two shots hit a police cruiser. The suspect then tried to run from police, but was caught a few minutes later.

One officer had to go to the hospital to receive a tetanus shot after he was cut from jumping a fence during the chase.

Police have not released the name of the teen.
