Bazetta Township fire chief placed on leave

Dennis Lewis

CORTLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – Bazetta Township Fire Chief Dennis Lewis has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to a township trustee.

Lewis was placed on leave April 14, according to trustee Ted Webb, who would not say why the fire chief was taken off duty.

A private citizen is in charge of the investigation into Lewis, which can take up to 15 days. That citizen will present his findings to the trustees, who will decide on what to do next. Lewis has been with the Bazetta Township fire department since 1983, according to his LinkedIn page.

Assistant fire chief Thomas Rink will act as head fire chief while the investigation is ongoing.
