MUSKEGON, MI (WYTV)-The Youngstown Phantoms had their season come to a close Monday night, falling to the Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-2, and losing the series 3-1.
The Phantoms opened up the scoring less than 2 minutes into the game after Max Letunov found Kiefer Sherwood for the games first goal. Letunov’s assist was the first point of the series for the Arizona Coyotes product.
Later in the period the Lumberjacks evened things up as Christian Wolanin nabbed his 2nd goal of the series to tie the game with 8:25 left in the period.
Just over midway through the 2nd, it was Wolanin again beating goaltending Chris Birdsall for his, and Muskegon’s second goal of the night giving them a 2-1 lead.
The Phantoms came right back however with Taylor Best beating Eric Schierhorn just over a minute later to tie the game. It was only Youngstown’s 3rd shot of the period.
The two teams weren’t done in the 2nd period however. Muskegon took the advantage once again with 3:46 left in the period after Corey Schueneman beat Birdsall for his first goal of the series and a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period, which was good enough for the win.
The Phantoms end the season as Anderson Cup Champions for having the most points in the regular season.
