SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – The Springfield Local School District will be getting a new superintendent next school year, but he is no stranger to the district.
Springfield Elementary School principal Tom Yazvac was named the new superintendent at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting. He will replace Debra Mettee, who is retiring.
Yazvac has been principal at Springfield Elementary school for the past 19 years. He also has been the assistant school superintendent. He takes over as superintendent Aug. 1.
“We just have so many good people in this area. The community supports the schools very well. The new school being built is going to be awesome. Great support from the PTO, the superintendent, treasurer, board. Everything just clicks,” Yazvac said.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the PTO donated $25,000 to the elementary school to buy Chromebooks for the classrooms.
