LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – The Liberty Board of Education on Monday did not renew the contract of head football coach Kevin Cylar.
This is something that happens every year with supplemental contracts for extracurricular activities. Cylar is not a teacher in the district, so he will not have the first shot at being rehired. That goes to teachers in the district.
Liberty Schools Superintendent Stan Watson said his recommendation is not to bring Cylar back next year, but to see who is interested in the job.
“At this time, we are under the impression that we are going to look and see, maybe that will change as we go through the process. Right now, that is my intention,” Watson said.
Cylar came under fire last month when he spoke on behalf of a former student Darrell Mason, who was being sentenced on drug and gang charges. Watson said that did not play into his decision.
Cylar said he plans to apply for the job and hopes the school board will bring him back.
