Canfield tops Champion on Senior Day

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – Canfield plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock off Champion 9-5 on Senior Day.

Ally Sammarco blasted one to the fence allowing Marina Sturgeon to score the go-ahead run.  Later in the inning, Senior Kara Rothbauer blasted a 3-run home run to right to cap off the scoring. Rothbauer went 2-3 on the day with 4 RBI and two runs scored.  Fellow Senior Rachel Tinkey went 2-4 with 2 RBI.

Canfield Starter Allison Fabry earned the win, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts.

Brittany Allen and Amber Ricci each tallied a pair of hits for Champion.  Alayna Fell drove in a run in the loss for the Golden Flashes.

Champion drops to 11-4 overall (6-1 AAC).

Canfield improves to 11-3 on the season (4-1 AAC).  The Cardinals return to action Thursday at Warren Harding.
