Volunteers march to honor the valley's Salvation Army

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — A march down Glenwood Avenue Sunday afternoon paid tribute to one of Youngstown’s most loyal non-profit organizations.

Dubbed the “March of Witness”…volunteers honored the Salvation Army for 130 years of service to the Mahoning Valley.

The group gathered at The Youngstown Playhouse and walked north along Glenwood to the building Salvation Army calls home.

The organization is dedicated to serving those who are at-risk and in need of financial, social, and spiritual support.

“Today friends and soldiers and supporters of the Salvation Army are having a celebration of praise thanking god for his faithfulness to us all these years. Enabling us to serve our neighbors here in the city,” said Maj. Elija Kahn, of the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army started in the United States 1882. The local branch was formed just three years later.
