YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown Mayor John McNally is swearing in three new firefighters this morning, to replace others who have retired.
The ceremony will happen at 9 a.m. at fire station number one, which is located at 420 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, downtown.
The fire department has been under-staffed for several months now, but with today’s event, the department will be back at its full staff number of 130. Back in December, Youngstown’s Firefighters Union and Mayor McNally made an agreement to save the city money so that Y-F-D wouldn’t lose a truck. But sacrifices had to be made to achieve the goal. The deal cut YFD’s overall staffing from 138 members to 130.
WKBN will be at station number one this morning as those three new recruits are sworn in, so make sure to stay tuned to our later newscasts for full coverage on the event.
