Girard upsets Crestview for Sectional Title

The Indians used a big third inning to defeat Crestview, 5-3 Friday in a Division III Sectional Final.

Columbiana, OH (WYTV) – The Girard baseball team used a big third inning to defeat Crestview, 5-3 Friday in a Division III Sectional Final at Crestview High School.

The Rebels came into the game as favorites, with a 17-6 record and an ITCL Championship under their belt. But Girard scored 4 runs in the third inning, two on bunts, and another on a bases-loaded walk to take an early 4-0 lead.

Crestview would mount a rally, by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it 5-2. Girard senior Kyle Harris gave up just 2 runs before being replaced by Christian Bello, who came in to get the save.

The Rebels would add one run in the 7th on a Jacob Wick RBI single, but Bello forced the next batter to pop out and end the game.

Girard improves to 16-11 on the season and advances to play top seeded Ursuline next Thursday in the District Semifinals at Cene Park. Crestview finishes the season with a 17-7 overall record.
