NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – A man accused of lead Warren Police on a high speed chase Saturday appeared in Niles court Monday morning facing additional charges.
Alexander Rood, 23, of Youngstown appeared on video from Trumbull County Jail, but not for charges of leading Warren Police on a chase. He was arraigned Monday on theft charges from a previous case.
Prosecutors will file charges and hold a hearing at a later date surrounding the chase that involved several police departments.
Warren Police said Rood stole a Hyundai Sonata from a home in Youngstown, fled from police and eventually hit a railroad crossing and went airborne.
The chase ended when Rood jumped in the Mahoning River near the former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital, according to Warren Police, who arrested him when he swam back to shore.
