BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Gout is a form of arthritis that affects the joints.
Risk factors for gout are obesity, a diet high in red meat, beer and soft drinks high in high fructose corn syrup. A diet to prevent gout is high in fish, eggs, low-fat dairy products, fresh vegetables and fruit, especially cherries and cherry juice.
Gout is more common in men than women and when women do get it, it is usually after menopause. People should drink at least eight to 10 glasses of water a day to reduce uric acid and reduce the chance of getting gout.
