YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Pools across the Mahoning and Shenango valleys are opening this weekend or preparing to open in early June.
In Mahoning County, the Northside Pool has an opening date set for June 17. They’re still looking for more lifeguards and may be forced to shorten their hours if they can’t find more to add to their crew.
For the second year in a row the Niles City Pool in Trumbull County will be closed. It will not open due to needed repairs and lack of money in the budget to get the work done.
City Auditor Charles Nader says opening the pool will be a decision city council will make on a year-to-year basis.
The East Palestine City Pool in Columbiana County opened Saturday. It will also be open Sunday and Monday, then reopen daily beginning May 30.
The Sadie VanFossen Swimming Pool in Lisbon will open starting May 30.
The East Liverpool City Pool doesn’t have an opening date yet due to renovations, but they’re hoping to welcome swimmers sometime the first week of June.
The Firestone Community Pool is open for the season. The first visitor jumped in at noon Saturday. The pool will also be open Sunday and Monday, then re-open for the summer at 3 p.m. May 29.
Both public swimming pools in Mercer County, Buhl Park in Hermitage and the Community Pool in West Middlesex, are opening June 6.
In Lawrence County, the SNPJ Recreation Center in Enon Valley is now open for swimmers. The pool was supposed to open Friday but administrators said it was too cold. The pool will also be open Sunday and then just weekends until June 5
