GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) – In Trumbull County, more than 100 people gathered at the Girard Cemetery Monday morning to honor the service men and women who are no longer here.
People of all ages got involved in the ceremony, from elementary school children raising the flag to high school students reading short biographies of fallen Girard veterans. For veterans at the ceremony, seeing all the people paying tribute to the true meaning of the holiday is touching.
“That warms me, warms my heart. Because we come up and we decorate the cemetery and we have a lot of people that are out here right now. They come and help us and it is just a great feeling,” David Jones, master of ceremonies for the event, said.
The Girard Veterans Council helps decorate the graves of deceased veterans with flags each year.
