WARREN,Ohio (WYTV) – One person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and another person was injured during an altercation on Warren’s southwest side Saturday.
Police were called to the area of 4th Street and Hayes Ave. S.W. about 4:45 p.m.
Witnesses said a person got out of a car and started firing a gun.
Warren Councilwoman Cheryl Saffold, 6th Ward, said she heard the gunshots and called 911.
“I was standing in my kitchen when I heard a barrage of gunshots fired. I immediately called 911, and then a couple of minutes later, I drove to the vicinity where I thought I heard the shots and sure enough there were where I thought they were,” Saffold said.
A man in his 20s was hit by gunfire and another person was injured in a car accident at the scene of the shooting.
Police had the road blocked off for hours while they investigated the scene.
Saffold said she is working to get security cameras put in the area in an effort to make the neighborhood safer.
“Something has to be done. I’m hoping cameras will be a deterrent so that people will think twice before they start waving gun fire,’ Saffold said.
The condition of the victims has not been released.
