Bass Classic draws hundreds to Springfield Township

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – Hundreds of people were trying their luck Saturday in a fishing competition to benefit the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.

The 16th Annual Muransky Companies Bass Classic was held at Evans and Pines Lakes in Springfield Township.

Dozens of amateurs made a donation to be teamed up with a professional angler and headed out on the private lakes, while others fished from shore.

The fundraiser brings in about $20,000 each year. The first two hundred kids also received food, goodie bags, and a gift donated by Fin, Feather, and Fur.

We invited a couple of groups out here that may not have come out on their own to expose them,” said Roxann Sebest with United Way. “United Way does a lot with early education so we kind of want to expose them to all avenues from fishing to outdoors to everything in the classroom. This is just one way to involve the entire family.”

Prizes were awarded for total weight and big bass.
