BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Boardman High School will start construction Sunday on grandstands for the new football stadium.
The school held a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday to mark phase two of the Spartan stadium project.
The first phase was the new FieldTurf surface.
Boardman will now build 7,100 seats for fans as part of the project.
Phase two also includes an enclosed press box and a 35-foot scoreboard. The video board will be the largest in the region.
“I think it’s going to be one of the top facilities,” said Tim Saxton, Boardman director of operations. “Obviously, someone else is going to do some remodeling and eventually top us. But for a while, we will have some bragging rights.”
The price tag for phase two of the stadium project is $1.6 million. Boardman raised the money through fundraising and donations.
The grandstands should be ready by football season.
