NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Charges are expected to be dropped against a Warren man wrongly accused of robbing another man at a Niles ATM.
DiShawn Robinson told police another man robbed him at the Huntington Bank ATM near the Eastwood Mall in the early morning hours of May 22.
The man denied the accusations, and after reviewing surveillance cameras, police said they determined that Robinson lied about the ordeal.
“He was brought back in and re-interviewed and confronted with our evidence and he admitted that he wasn’t robbed at the ATM,” Niles Police Captain Ken Criswell said. “He was supposedly trying to buy some marijuana and got ripped off while buying marijuana.”
Criswell said Robinson told them he tried to buy marijuana but received none. He also expects the initial robbery charge to be dropped.
Meanwhile, Robinson received a summons for a court appearance on June 30, when he will be arraigned for filing a false police report, which is a felony charge.
