Mahoning, Trumbull team up to buy road grinder

Counties fund grinder

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The engineers of Mahoning and Trumbull counties are teaming up to buy a new piece of equipment.

Mahoning County Engineer Pat Ginnetti and Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith will be working together to purchase a new road grinder, which would be used to remove old paving materials before new material is used.

Ginnetti said the plan will allow them access to the equipment without having to the foot the whole bill individually and take a huge chunk out of their respective budgets.

“It is going to enable us to be less of a burden on our budgets. Obviously, we are going to have to share the equipment. We are not going to have it 100 percent of the time, which both of us would like to, but again, we are moving towards working together and stretching the dollar,” Ginnetti said.

Each county will pay half the $230,000 price under a five-year rent-to-own agreement. The new grinder should arrive in a few weeks.
