Paul’s Italian Grille is located in the center of Columbiana, just south of the square and has been since the late 90’s. I met with Paul’s daughter, Tara, who seems to be the driving force behind the front of the restaurant. She tells me her dad has been a chef in the area for many, many years and is actually of Greek heritage. So don’t be surprised to see a few Gyro items on the menu.

Tara headed to the kitchen and I looked over the menu in anticipation. If you’re hungry for Italian than Paul’s has everything you’re hungry for. Fried Cheese, Italian Greens, Sandwiches, Salads, Wraps, Pasta, Pizza, even a “Create Your Own Feast” option.

I didn’t have to wait long and my table was overflowing with food. Tara brought out a couple of thick slices of fresh bread and some dipping oil and cheese. Then one plate after another until there was no room left on the table. Where to begin.

I thought I would go traditional and start with the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The sauce is thick and packed with traditional Italian flavors. Meatballs are just as good. Lots of cheese sprinkled on top and perfectly cooked pasta.

Next I moved over to the Chicken Parm that is also served with a side of spaghetti. Delicious. This is a lot of food. Large breaded chicken breast that is crunchy good. It’s no overly breaded so you get the perfect balance of moist chicken and crunchy breading. I’m sure this is a favorite at the restaurant.

For those who prefer a cream sauce, I was served the Fettuccini Alfredo with Grilled Chicken. Thick, cheesy alfredo on a bed of pasta with golden chunks of grilled chicken. The sauce is thick and coats the past perfectly. If you love cheese you’ll love this one.

From pastas we moved to one of my favorite things, a Bacon Cheeseburger. I do love my burgers and this one did not disappoint. A buttered, toasted ciabatta bun surrounds a perfectly seasoned burger dripping with American cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Nothing else is needed on this one, pass on the ketchup and just go for it. Love this burger.

Paul’s has a Summer Special Menu that includes several salads and barbecue ribs. Tara presented me with one of the salads; Strawberry and Walnut Chicken Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette. It looked amazing. Lots of color, fresh and you could smell those fresh strawberries immediately. This salad has everything. Romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, fresh strawberries, tomatoes and cheese shreds. The dressing is so good and perfect for this salad. It’s not too sweet, not too oily, light but has tons of flavor. What can I say, it’s ‘berry good’!

All the portions are large, the staff is friendly and there’s something for everyone on the menu. Next time you’re in the mood for Italian, go to Paul’s Italian Grille in the heart of Columbiana.
