Man sentenced for threatening Mahoning Co. Dem chairman

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – A judge has sentenced a man from Trumbull County to nearly four years in prison for making threats against local attorney David Betras.

Police investigators said that in October 2014, Charles Reighard tried to throw a device meant to look like a pipe bomb through a plate glass window of Betras’ law office in Canfield last year, then sent a letter to Betras, threatening his family and demanding money.

Reighard blamed Betras for losing his job at GM Lordstown in the 90s. Betras represented him in court at the time.

The device turned out to be non-explosive, according to police.
