YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown woman will serve one year of probation for her behavior at a murder scene on the west side last year.
Carla Higgins, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction on Thursday. Police said the woman interfered with their investigation and was acting out against police.
That was right after the murder of 17-year-old Shawn Cortez on Winona Drive last year. Higgins arrived after a riot at the scene.
She told the judge she was worried for her daughter, who called Higgins on a cell phone from the back of a police car.
“I was unaware what had transpired and was fearful that my daughter may be caught up in a conflict she did not have a hand in creating,” Higgins said during her sentencing.
