Liberty officials cut ribbon on new sidewalk

Liberty ribbon cutting

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – Liberty township officials cut the ribbon Wednesday for a brand new sidewalk on state Route 304, making it safer for kids to walk to school.

The $300,000 project was paid for with a competitive grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation called “safe Routes to School,” and didn’t cost the township any money.

Construction began in the fall, but crews were not able to pour the cement until the spring.

“It has been a long time coming. We have seen kids walking in the street and it is not a safe situation,” Liberty Trustee Jodi Stoyak said.

ODOT crews are now working on a crosswalk signal connecting Route 304 to Shady Road, where the school complex is located. The sidewalk goes all the way to the township administration building.
