Stolen SUV crashes on Route 82 in Howland Twp.

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – Howland police are investigating a rollover crash involving a stolen vehicle.

Calls began coming in to the Howland Police Department just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday about a SUV driving erratically on Route 82. A few minutes later, a caller said the vehicle had crashed near route 46.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver, Matt Safos, 24, of Howland, was walking in nearby woods.

Assistant Howland Police Chief Nick Roberts said the SUV was reported stolen out of Beaver Township. Other items found in the vehicle link Safos to other crimes in Beaver Township.

Safos was arrested at the scene. He was charged with receiving stolen property, burfgary, theft, OVI and failure to control. He is being held in the Trumbull County Jail.
