BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – We’re just a few days away from the 4th of July holiday weekend. And with all of the excitement, comes the hustle and bustle on the roads.
Route 11 and Route 224 and Western Reserve and Interstate 680 are two big problem areas, mostly because drivers are making U-turns in the area.
“We get calls regularly about people driving through the marked crossovers, on authorized emergency vehicles only on Route 11 and 680, near Western Reserve Road,” said Lieutenant Nakia Hendrix, Ohio State Highway Patrol
Hendrix says it’s been because of the recent bridge work and road construction. Drivers are missing their exits and instead of going down to the next exit, they are taking a shortcut through the crossovers, which can be deadly.
“Traffic is traveling at a high rate of speed up and down those interstates, and if someone goes through there and they are not going the right speed, they can cause a serious fatal car crash,” Hendrix said.
Hendrix said it is worth the extra few minutes to turn around the right way but going to the next exit and come back around.
So far, there have not being any crashes reported but Hendrix says there have been many close calls.
