YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A painting is set to be unveiled this weekend at the Mahoning County Courthouse in Youngstown.
The painting is called “America’s Story” and was painted by an artist known far and wide. His name is Ray Simon and he is from the Mahoning Valley.
The painting represents many big moments in the nation’s history. Emcee of the event, Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti, said the painting’s purpose is much bigger than it seems.
“Kids can come here from high schools, people who visit this courthouse can come over here and read the plaque. The 3-foot by 3-foot plaque explains what is in the painting and how that painting relates to American history both past and into the present,” Traficanti said.
The unveiling will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. with a march to the courthouse, and will feature Civil War re-enactments.
