One suspect in custody in Liberty purse thefts; 2 more ID’d

Dustin Beach, Liberty Ohio Purse Theft Suspect

LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – Liberty Police are expected to file theft charges against 29-year old Dustin Beach of Boardman, suspected of taking at least one purse from a Liberty Wal-Mart customer.

Beach is currently in the Mahoning County Jail. Boardman Police told WKBN that they previously charged him with theft for taking purses

Liberty Police said they have identified a man and a woman also suspected of stealing purses. Detectives are talking to the prosecutor to see if charges will be filed against them.

WYTVdid a story on the thefts Tuesday, which police said led to the suspects being identified.

Wal-Mart surveillance video showed the purses being lifted from shopping carts at Wal-Mart in Liberty Township.

One theft happened inside the store. A woman was just feet away from her shopping cart when someone took her purse with around $300 in it, according to a police report.

The other happened outside in the parking lot. A woman thought someone took her purse from her cart, but surveillance video shows she left her purse in the cart when she returned it. Someone snatched it up. Police have found both purses, but said the cash is gone.

“If you eliminate the opportunity, you eliminate the crime,” Liberty Police Capt. Toby Meloro said. “I know it is easy to leave things, especially when you are shopping, like a purse or a bag, but there are people who prey on that.”
