NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Valley residents will soon have another professional sports team to cheer on, after a group of business partners announced Wednesday that the Mahoning Valley Brawlers will start playing in Niles this fall.
The Brawlers will play at Eastwood Field as part of the Fall Experimental Football League, or FXFL, which was formally announced as a league less than a month ago. FXFL Commissioner Brian Woods said during the press conference at Eastwood Mall that the Brawlers will be a good fit for the four-team league.
“The Mahoning Valley market, they do a great job with their minor league baseball team here. It’s a winning partnership,” Woods said. “And it’s also in a state that has a rich football tradition as it relates to producing NFL talent. So we felt like this was a good fit for us.”
The new professional football team will play its home games at Eastwood Field, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
