GREENE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – Law enforcement officials are expected to file charges against a Trumbull County teen who disappeared Wednesday, according to Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere.
Trumbull County Sheriff’s Major Thomas Stewart said that Adam Burgard, 15, was found safe around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area near the line between Trumbull County and Ashtabula County. Altiere said that he is not sure which agency would file the charges or what the charges would be, but did say that they would be related to triggering the search effort. The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the case.
According to Trumbull County Sheriff’s Major Harold Firster, Burgard was out on a practice run on Dennison Ashtabula Road just north of Route 87 and east of Mosquito Lake with his Maplewood High School teammates when he fell behind and then disappeared around 9:30 a.m.
Altiere said several hunters with cameras monitoring deer spotted the teenager, who in turn told OSP troopers.
Soon after the beginning of the search, police moved the bulk of their efforts closer to the line between Trumbull County and Ashtabula County.
Officers from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol were looking for Burgard starting around 1 p.m. Wednesday. OSHP called out a helicopter to help with the search.
