BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Six weeks from tonight marks the first Friday of the 2015 high school football season. It promises to be a particularly special season for the Boardman Spartans…who move into a new home this Fall.
Construction continues on the new Boardman Stadium. The home side grandstand went up this week. The new stadium will seat around 7-thousand fans. Work on the visitors bleachers will begin next week. Things are right on schedule for the mid-August deadline. And the Spartans can’t wait to officially move in to their new home.
“You catch your kids walking up to the turf, looking around like it’s still not reality but it is,” Boardman Head Coach Joe Ignazio said. “Really we just still try to take care of the things that we can take care of…we have to concentrate on football. But it’s definitely brought an excitement. You know, you go to the grocery store and people are talking about it, you go down the hallways at school and people are talking about it…so our kids are definitely excited,” he said.
Senior Running Back Mario Graziani echoes those sentiments.
“It’s definitely cool because like playing at the pit…that’s no longer but being able to be a senior, breaking in the new field in front of seven thousand plus people, that’s gotta be a good feeling and hopefully we get that first W there,” he added.
There will also be a brand new pressbox at the stadium. It’s scheduled to be hoisted into place this weekend. Efforts to install the sound system and scoreboard are also underway.
The stadium will debut on Friday September 4th…when Boardman hosts Cardinal Mooney.
