SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio (WYTV) – Sheffield Lake Mayor Dennis Bring has confirmed to WJW Fox 8 that 4-year-old Sidney Heidrick did not survive after walking away from his grandparents’ Sheffield Lake home Friday afternoon.
Bring confirmed that Sidney was found in Lake Erie, very close to the spot where he was last seen at 4:30p.m. Friday afternoon.
WJW Fox 8 reported hundreds of first responders and community volunteers joined the search for the boy. Because he has autism, people were told that he might not respond when they called out his name, so for some time they were playing Sidney’s favorite song, “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” as they looked for him.
Federal agencies including the FBI and Coast Guard joined local police and fire departments and the volunteers in the search for the boy. Some searchers used jet skis to look on waterways.
Authorities say Sidney had been visiting his grandparents.
