BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The church building that sits inside Boardman Park sometimes hosts weddings and other special events. Sunday morning, the Saint James Meeting House held a special worship service. Many members of the congregation of Saint James Episcopal Church in Boardman came back to their old church, praying and singing like they did up to 1972 when they moved to a larger building.
Harry Moldovan was baptized at Saint James in 1928. “It has been a pleasant memory”, says Moldovan. “It has really been a good church and a lot of fine people.”.
Parishioners said they like how music sounds inside the smaller, older church. “The acoustics are just phenomenal”, says one. “They’re wonderful, and it sounds like we have a congregation of 200 or 300 people. It’s wonderful.”
The church was built by Elijah Boardman in 1927 and it the oldest public building in the township. It was moved to Boardman Park from its original location in Boardman Center at Route 224 and Market Street. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
