Local health leaders prepare in case of Valley Ebola outbreak

Ebola conference in Boadman, Ohio

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Leaders in the medical field met Thursday to talk about plans on what to do if an Ebola outbreak were to occur in the Mahoning Valley.

Members of local health departments as well as first responders were at the conference.

The group discussed ways to handle Ebola, such as physical contact with a patient and how to protect the patient’s privacy.

“This is really an informational gathering session, it’s a work session for all of our community partners to engage in the process and have a voice in the process for developing a good plan for our community,” Mahoning County District Board of Health Community Health Director Joseph Diorio said.

In addition to Ebola, the group also looked at other viruses and ways to handle them.

There has not been a reported case of Ebola in the Mahoning Valley.
