Niles man arrested after police find suspected meth lab

Donald Brown arrested on Niles meth lab charges

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – A man was arrested in Niles early Thursday after investigators said they found an active lab in his home.

Donald Brown, 41, was arrested Wednesday night on a probation violation after a probation officer and members of the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force went to question him about pseudoephedrine purchases they have been tracking.

TAG Captain Jeff Orr said Brown was not home at the time, but during the initial walk through of the Summit Street home, investigators found an active meth lab inside a large canvas gym bag in the dining room.

“I was wondering what happened down there. I didn’t suspect a meth lab. I mean, wow,” Richard Modarelli, who lives nearby, said.

Neighbors said Summit Street is usually a pretty quiet neighborhood.

“It just kind of shakes you up a little bit, but I guess that happens in all neighborhoods. You just gotta be careful,” neighbor Steve Evinsky said.

This was not the first time Brown has been arrested on drug-related charges. In December, he was one of 10 suspects picked up after TAG executed a search warrant at the Cottage Inn on Youngstown-Warren Road following a lengthy investigation into the manufacturing and sale of methamphetamine.

He was video arraigned Thursday morning on the probation violation and is expected to appear in court again Friday morning. His bond was set at just $5,000.
