VIENNA, OH (WYTV) – Mathews made a run into the playoffs for the first time since 2007 last year, posting a perfect 6-0 record in the NAC. This year the Mustangs return 8 starters on offense and 9 on defense with the hopes of a return to Week 11.
“What we want to do is play better Week 1 to Week 2, Week 2 to Week 3. We are not really looking too far ahead, we have the team goals, win the league, make playoffs, and compete in the playoffs and those are our major goals but what we want to do is get better week to week,” says fourth-year head coach Mike Palumbo.
The Mustangs return a stud in the backfield with senior Brian Leipply who rushed for 1,286 yards and 18 scores.
“We will approach that one game at a time, get better each week. We have had a heck of an offseason so the strength will be up and a lot of heart, this team is going to be pushing,” said Leipply.
Mathews opens their season August 28th on the road against St. John
