YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — The Second Harvest Food Bank in Youngstown gave some kudos to the people who give their time to the charity.
More than a hundred volunteers and family members went there this afternoon for Volunteer Appreciation Day. Fire Grill of Girard supplied the food for a picnic.
Second Harvest said the volunteers donated more than seven thousand hours of their time this year. They help with sorting and re-boxing food for distribution and assist with the food bank’s programs.
“A charity typically has to depend on volunteers and they become the lifeblood of our organization and we’re very very grateful to have all these people come out today and come out here on a weekly basis,” said Michael Iberis, Second Harvest Food Bank executive director.
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley delivers and distributes forty-thousand pounds of food each day in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull Counties.
