WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) — A total of 400 local students will be starting out the school year with new pencils and notebooks — thanks to donations from the community.
St. Vincent DePaul in Warren held its first school supply giveaway Saturday morning.
The Cafaro Family and local churches donated $1,000 for the supplies, including pens, crayons and scissors. Volunteers stacked the supplies together into packets for the kids to pick up.
“We didn’t know that the need was so great or that so many people would come. They started knocking at the door at 7:30 this morning and it has been going steady ever since,” said Frank Skowron, Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
Volunteers organized 300 packets of supplies for elementary students, and 100 for high school students. They said some packets are still available at the thrift store if you have a child who needs supplies.
