POLAND, OH (WYTV)-Poland has been one of the most stable programs in the area. Eight-straight postseason appearances for the Bulldogs but they want more in 2015.
Although they have had success getting to the playoffs, they haven’t finished first in their conference in the past five years and haven’t won a regional title since 2009.
Poland graduated 17 seniors from last years team including their starting quarterback, running back, wide receiver and anchor on the offensive line but do return five starters back on offense and six on defense.
Senior Anthony Calcagni is one of those starters returning, he caught 18 passes for 354 yards and 3 scores last season for the Bulldogs offense that scored 26.4 points per game.
With the amount of talent that left, the team knows everyone will have to step up in 2015.
“In football every day is a battle. You got to win the play that you’re doing right now, that will help you win the war. Got to work together, you have to be a team and that’s how you accomplish your goals. you got to be tough and you got to work,” says senior safety Dylan Garver.
“Just 11 guys ready for battle you know we got to work together. You know, we’re taking some of the army philosophies and applying them at practice. Teamwork, hard work, stuff like that, so it’s going good,” said senior quarterback Nick Buccieri
Poland opens the year August 27th at home against Marlington
