GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) – Damage is estimated at $60,000 in a Monday morning fire in Girard. Fortunately, the family of four living in the house escaped without injury.
The fire on Gordon Street just off of North State Street started on the back deck and spread to the rear wall and attic of the house. There was also smoke damage to some contents in the house.
The Girard Fire Department says the family had been burning wood in a fire pit on the wooden deck on Sunday night. They believe that wind may have kicked up an ember in the ashes and started the blaze.
The department got the call at 5:25 am. Flames were shooting out of the back of the house when firefighters arrived.
