HANOVERTON, OH (WYTV)-It was an off-season of change in Hanoverton for the United Golden Eagles. The team lost 12 seniors from their 2014 team that posted a 7-4 record and made a trip to Week 11. Their coach for that run, Mike Ward, also left United in January.
But new head coach Michael Demster doesn’t have a bare cupboard with United, the team welcomes back senior running backs Colton Antram and Tyler Powers who each rushed for over 600 yards last season.
“I think we are going to be a threat because I think one of our strongest suits is going to be our backfield. We have both size and speed in the backfield so if we can get the line to gel and open up some holes for them then we will be able to score some points,” says Demster.
“He definitely fits our play style. United has always ran the ball and that is what he is all about and we can be pretty successful with his offense,” said Powers.
The offensive line could be an issue for United losing four starting lineman from a year ago, but the team feels that the young players that have joined the varsity this year can fill the void.
“I think we are going to be a pretty good group, we have a nice size group of kids from the younger class and I think they are going to fill positions well since we graduated quite a few seniors from last year. We have a lot to step up in to, big shoes to fill but I think it is capable of happening,” says Antram.
United will open their season August 28th at home against Malvern.
