Scrap yard fire in Lawrence County

Feezle Fire 2

ENON VALLEY, Pa. (WYTV)  – A number of scrap vehicles and two semi trailers were destroyed in a Tuesday morning fire at an auto wrecking business in Lawrence County.

Enon Valley Fire Chief Manny Hostetler tells the Morning Journal said his department received a call around 11:30 a.m. that a fire had broken out at Feezle Auto Wrecking on Old Enon-Unity Road.

Hostetler said the crews first saw the semi trailers on fire at the front of the building and were working to extinguish those when they realized there were also several cars on fire.

He said the fire was caused by static electricity. Employees were attempting to transfer gas from a fuel tote to a 500-gallon drum. Once it ignited the employees attempted to move the fire away from the building and other vehicles using front end loaders.

“It got out of control. It ran down a little ditch and caught some shop cars on fire, and two trailers on fire. It helped out a lot that they had two front end loaders. That kept them from getting a lot more cars caught on fire,” Hostetler said.

The business lost about 10 to 15 of its scrap cars in the fire in addition to the two trailers, he said.

No injuries were reported.
