Truck hits I-80 overpass in West Middlesex

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. (WYTV) – PennDot has closed Route 718 below I-80 in Shenango Township after a roll off truck that carries recycling containers hit the westbound I-80 bridge, damaging it. The accident happened at around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The boom on the truck was apparently in the up position.

Route 718 will be closed for three days for evaluation and stabilization work between Route 318 and Wansack Road. The posted detour especially for trucks uses Routes 18, 318, 418 and 760.

The accident is having little impact on the bridge. Traffic continues to flow on both lanes of I-80 west, the shoulder is closed at the bridge. That’s at the 1.5 mile marker in Mercer County.

The driver of the truck refused medical treatment.
