GROVE CITY, PA (WYTV)-It was a year to forget in 2014 for the Grove City football team. Just a 2-8 record last season that snapped a streak of 12 years without a losing record. But the Eagles bring back a lot of experience and believe they are ready to begin a new streak.
“You know last year we lost some tough games in the beginning part of the year and started 0-8 but those last two wins, the kids sort of seem rejuvenated thru that and really gave them some confidence,” says head coach Sam Mowrey who is in his 2nd-year at Grove City.
Mowrey brings back six starters on defense and five on offense including junior quarterback Kameron Patterson. As a sophomore, Patterson passed for 1,777 yards and 22 touchdowns. Even better for Patterson and the Eagles, the team welcomes back four starters on the offensive line.
“I think we made a lot of good changes this year. Our quarterback has grown a lot, I think he has gotten his QB IQ up you can say. I just think everyone has matured from last year,” said junior AJ Turner.
On defense the Eagles did lose their top tackler from a year ago but have three linebackers back headlined by D’Andre Byers and Peter Chuzie who had 7 interceptions a year ago.
Grove City opens the season on September 4th at Wilmington.
