Sharpsville, PA (WYTV) – The Blue Devils came up just one win shy of the State Championship game a year ago, but graduated a core group of seniors that will force the Blue Devils to rebuild for 2015.
And it will be a philosophy change for head coach Paul Piccirilli, who enters his 20th season at the helm. The Blue Devils have been a run-first team in the past, but they plan on airing it out more with junior quarterback Luke Henwood back under center. He threw for over 14 hundred yards and 7 touchdowns last season. The offensive line will be a strength with 4 returners, along with playmakers Khaliq Ragster and Tyrin Peavy back in the mix on the outside. As for the defense, they return 5 starters from a year ago, but will need new guys to step up.
“Last year, i think we threw it around 30 percent, we’re trying to get it up a little higher, trying to catch up with everybody else,” said Piccirilli. “Because usually I’m a bonehead and we run the ball 90 percent of the time so we are picking up the pace in passing and hopefully we can spread teams out and then hurt them with our run.”
“It spreads everyone out, our offense is really unpredictable, it keeps you on your toes,” said senior lineman Bobby Demofonte.
“We have to work together and honestly I think we can be a really really great team,” said senior Donny Keck. “It is something special we come out here and do. We all love it, we love each other and it is a brotherhood. I just hope we put it all together and make it work.”
The Blue Devils open the regular season against Otto-Eldred on September 5th.
